Nebrodi Park, the largest protected area in Sicily, has always paid particular attention to schools with the aim to promote the respect of the environment and the safeguard of biodiversity.
As a matter of fact, since October 1996 when the planning agreement between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Education was signed, the Park has always considered this document an important reference point, and has been stimulating the institutions to place at the school's disposal adequate instruments to provide an opportunity of "direct" knowledge of Nature places.
This agreement, according to which a gradual enhancement of the guided visits in the protected natural areas must be promoted, has been enforced by the Park through the proposal of didactic activities articulated on new educational offers: didactic tools, evaluation cards for the management of Environmental Education programs, training and updating courses for teachers, stages, an educational workshop, guided visits with lessons in the field.
These projects aim at promoting the Park knowledge and the respect of nature and the environment.
Today, the Park suggests to schools thematic programs that can be adapted to the different needs, according to the age of the pupils/students.
