Listen to the deer’s breeding bellow in the quiet of the forest at night

Saturday 25 September 2021

In the Park, every season offers incredible shows: in autumn, there is the deer's breeding bellow. When the first cold weather comes, and the larch trees turn golden, the deer enter the breeding season and the valleys of the Park resound with the powerful bellows of the males. For a male deer, this is the busiest time of the year. With deep bellows, dances and fierce fights, the breeding rivals compete for the females.

The programme, for all hikes, includes a welcome dinner followed by a short presentation, to become familiar with the deer and their breeding bellows. Then there will be an easy night hike in the woods, with the Park's wildlife experts, in search of the deer and listening to their bellows. A thermal imaging camera will also be used to watch these proud animals in complete darkness, without disturbing them.

  • The activity starts at 6.30 p.m. and ends at 10.30 p.m. approx.

  • Meeting point at the Paneveggio Visitor Centre on 18, 25 September and 9 October.
