An Imposing Relief in the Alluvial Plain

Where in Italy Riserva naturale speciale Rocca di Cavour
The Rocca is an imposing relief rising isolated in the alluvial plain formed between the river Po and the stream Pellice, and represents a "summit" of the Dora-Maira geological massif. The hill is covered for the 80% by woodland, for the 15% by agricultural fields while the 5% is formed by rocky and uncultivated areas. The vegetation is mainly represented by woods, sometimes coppice or long-trunk chestnut trees. The fauna is typical of the Po plain areas; the presence of micro-mammals (squirrel, dormouse, porcupine, field mouse, etc.) is very interesting. The avifauna is of great interest, since the Rocca is the only area covered with woods within 7-8 km, and, thanks to its isolated position, it is a reference point for the birds of passage.
