Live nature on the river Po

The Parco Locale di Interesse Sovracomunale (Local Park extending over many municipalities) of San Colombano, established in 1997 and managed by the city of Suzzara, is a natural protected area giving visitors the opportunity to know the padanian floodplain environment and history. It comprises a surface of about 730 hectares and extends over 7 km along the areas near the river Po. The Park also belongs to the Special Protection Area SPA IT20B0501 "Viadana, Portiolo, San Benedetto, Ostiglia" which is constituted by poplars, cultivated areas, forests and more natural environments (forests, plants and herbs living in wetlands, water courses, dry beds of rivers). This area, which is also involved in Po's floods, is moreover characterized by wetlands next to disused quarries and to the so-called "bugni".
