Marroni

The Park is rich in chestnut tree woods, in particular in the areas of Castellino, Gainazzo, and Montecorone. Each town gives to marroni its own name (marroni from Zocca, marroni from Roccamalatina) and it organizes a festival dedicated to these fruits. A bit smaller than marroni from Castel del Rio or the alpine valleys, they have a light color, blond ginger, and they are particularly sweet and tastes. They can be roasted or boiled. Marroni flour is used to prepare the traditional mistocche, tapered roll-shaped baked sweets.
