Pecit Path

(with Pineta di Appiano G.le e Tradate Park)

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Wildlife

The path starts on the western outskirts of Oltrona di San Mamette along Via Dominioni; immediately after the bridge over the Antiga stream, it bends to the right along a path between the wood and the stream. The wetland allows flowers such as periwinkle, Solomon's seal and heath violet to grow in spring. Shrubs and trees such as black locust, elder, hazelnut and hawthorn cover the banks and escarpments. It is much rarer to find a hornbeam, a tree that was once widespread in these environments but is now weak and has been replaced by faster-growing trees. The smooth newt can be seen in the pools: it is similar to the salamander, but its colours are less evident and it has a notched dorsal crest.
