In December 2006, the Park ended an important project for the recovery of the World War I trenches, which has been made possible thanks to the contributions of Fondazione Cariplo, Provincia di Como, Regione Lombardia, and to the budget appropriations of the Park. A publication dedicated to this project has also been prepared.
In particular, Mrs Francesca Boldrini, expert in the field appointed by the Park Board of Directors, has carried out an important research activity in the local, provincial, and national archives resulting in the publication "La difesa di un confine", describing the building stages of the Cadorna line fortresses within the Park, also with the support of unpublished military documents.
The book, published in about 9,000 copies, with the title "La difesa di un confine - fortificazioni campali nel Parco Regionale Spina Verde", was officially presented in the hall of Villa Gallia on 18th December 2006. All the participants (over 100) received a free copy of the book. Given the interest demonstrated by the local population and by the experts in the field, free copies are currently distributed also at the Park Offices and in the various tourist offices of Como.
