Trekking 12 Magione - M. Ruffiano

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Panorama
  • Departure: Magione
  • Duration: 4 hour/s 30 minutes
  • Difficulty Level: E - Hiking (level)
  • Length: 12.97 km

The starting point of this itinerary is the cemetery of Magione. You hike over a crest path crossing cultivated olive areas. Along the way, panoramic views of the Trasimeno Lake and its islands appear. The hamlet you discern on the left is Montecolognola. Proceeding, the landscape opens on the Goga Valley, with Colpiccione in the foreground, some pines hundreds of years old and scattered groups of cypresses. You pass next to the Petraia farmstead, alternating zones of woods and open stretches, and take a wider road that goes towards the road connecting Trasimeno and Castel Rigone. Cross the road and take a small path bordering an archeological area until you reach a fork. You rise towards the Quarantaia House (494 m.) and halfway up take a very panoramic trail which crosses an area of recent forestation (holm oaks, oaks, cypresses and cedars). In a little time, following the signs, you reach the clearing under Mount Ruffiano. You can climb to the top of the hillock, where you find the remains of an old fortified tower (423 m.). From the clearing, go back and turn to the right, taking a panoramic trail parallel to and lower in respect to the previous one. Enjoy a beautiful of the church of San Donato and a few typical farmhouses. Return to the tarmac road and, after having crossed it, follow the same itinerary that brought you here until the point where you had exited the wood at a large agricultural property with a recently restructured farmhouse (I Pianelli). From this point, continue uphill along the road going towards the Castelluccio Hill (478 m.). From here, following the signs, in a short time you will return to the starting point.
