A Park in the Heart of the Cottian Alps

Where in Italy Parco Naturale della Val Troncea
Val Troncea is the head of the drainage basin of the stream Chisone whose springs are situated in the Mountains Barifreddo and Appenna. The valley formed thanks to the action of the glaciers and erosive phenomena which are still taking place. Situated in the heart of the Cottian Alps, the Park covers an area of 3,280 hectares in the upper part of the basin of the stream Chisone. The protected territory is mainly delimited by peaks of three thousand meters of height and entirely lies in the Municipality of Pragelato, owner of the 89% of the land.
