A cosy and peaceful bivouac for hikers...
In the upper valley of torrent Parma, at the foot of the main Apennine ridge and surrounded by a natural landscape with Alpine features, Cento Laghi Park renovated (in the years 2000 and 2008) an old shelter for shepherds, recovering the interiors and transforming it into a cosy and peaceful bivouac for hikers. It is a "managed" bivouac: therefore, in order to use it, it is necessary to make a reservation and pay a management contribution fee (covering the cost of premises cleaning and maintenance).
The management has been entrusted to Cooperativa Lago Scuro - Corniglio (PR) until 31st December 2011.
Capanne di Badignana
At about 1,480 meters of altitude, at the edges of a precious peat bog, there is "Capanne di Badignana", one of the most beautiful laps of the upper Val Parma.
Surrounded by a characteristic high-mountain landscape with wetlands and grazing lands alternating with beech tree forests, this bivouac is the ideal destination if you want to spend the night near the ridge.
Born as a shelter for the shepherds who used to lead the flocks to these places for the summer grazing,
Capanne currently house not only a shelter for the shepherd and a stable for the sheep, but also a bivouac with four beds and toilets, wood-burning stove, running water - not fit for drinking - and electric light obtained from solar panels.
Situated exactly at the crossroads between trails CAI 709 and 721, the bivouac is the ideal stop if you are walking along "Sentiero delle zone umide" (The Wetland Trail), a long itinerary which, by crossing glacial lakes, peat bogs, and brooks, ideally connects
Cento Laghi Regional Park (Val Cedra) with the area of Parma in
Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park (Val Parma).
