Rifugio Alpino Isera

A Patch of Heaven in an Uncontaminated Nature

Isera Mountain Hut is situated at 1,200 meters of altitude, in a large beech woodland clearing under the calcareous massif of Pania di Corfino, in the territory of Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. It lies in the middle of a trail network giving access to three State Nature Reserves (Pania di Corfino, Lamarossa, and Orecchiella), representing a connection with the ring-route of Garfagnana Trekking and the GEA trail developing along the ridge. Further trails enable to reach Garfagnana valley bottom on foot, visiting castles, medieval towns, and Renaissance fortresses and, if you want, to follow the trails of Alpi Apuane on the opposite slope.

Accommodation

The building is a small two-floor structure perfectly integrated with the environment; on the ground floor, it has a cosy café and restaurant hall with about forty seats. Moreover, in the surrounding meadow, several tables will give you the opportunity to taste the dishes carefully prepared by the landlords, surrounded by nature. On the second floor, the dormitory with 18 beds is provided with bathrooms and showers with hot water. There is also the possibility to place tents in the surrounding sites, equipped with night lights, barbecue set, bathrooms and showers with hot water where it is possible to enjoy nature.

The Management

The management mainly aims at promoting the mountain hut as a reference point for naturalistic tourism, hiking, and mountaineering. It organizes environmental education stays for kids, weekends and guided thematic visits, events and thematic nights. The kitchen offers dishes of the gastronomy tradition of Garfagnana, prepared with local products coming from a network of local producers. It commits itself to adopt measures respecting the environment, like eliminating plastic bottles and glasses, disposable cutlery and dishes, using recycled paper, biodegradable soaps, adopting energy saving measures and separate waste collection measures.

Activities

Isera Mountain Hut is the ideal place if you are looking for a departure point for traverses and tours along the ridge of the Apennines and in the three State Nature Reserves, also on horseback or by mountain bike. Moreover, it is the ideal departure point if you want to practice climbing on the rocky wall of Pania di Corfino and to reach the highest summits of Appennino Tosco-Emiliano and, in winter, for tours with snow rackets following the traces of the wolves and other animals, across snow-clad magic woodlands.
In the various seasons, there is nothing better than spending some time in full relax and silence in the luxuriant nature surrounding the mountain hut, in a cosy atmosphere, discovering every day something new along the trails of the park surrounding it.

Opening

The mountain hut is open every day during the summer months and during the rest of the year in the weekends for groups.
