The origins of the town of Pettorano sul Gizio date back to the Middle Ages. However, the adjacent areas and the surrounding mountains were characterized by human settlements already in the Paleolithic Age. Surveys carried out along the slopes of Mt. Genzana and in the various surrounding areas have brought to light very ancient evidences, above all tools belonging to the first hunters who used to occasionally live in these lands. The archaeological evidences found give the opportunity to follow the development and the activities of the first settlements of upper Gizio Valley from the Middle Ages and over the millennia.
