On Friday, 15th February 2002 a Provincial Council meeting was held in Crotone. Among the points on the agenda there was the issue ENI-Agip involving the Riserva Naturale Marina "Capo Rizzuto", since the installation of the derrick is to be made on the boundary of an integrally protected area, with an environmental impact which is easy to imagine. At the end of the discussion, the Provincial Council has approved a document in which it confirms its institutional commitment to the defence of the local citizens' rights. Moreover, it states that this kind of commitment is independent from any political influence: on the contrary, it derives from the need to preserve the human, cultural, and environmental heritage of the Province. |

The Riserva Naturale Marina "Capo Rizzuto" continues with its activity of conservation and safeguard of the natural resources and of the coast of the protected marine area. To this purpose, the Region of Calabria has admitted the interest paid by the Ente manager within the POR Calabria 2000/2006 ASSE I - Misura 1.5 Sistemi Naturali - Azione 1.5c (Environmental conservation within the context of natural resources conservation), inviting the Ente to present the executive projects for a sum of ¤ 248.673,99. Satisfaction has been demonstrated by the person responsible for the a.m.p., Raffaele Gareri, and by the Assessore alla Pianificazione Territoriale of the Province of Crotone, Engineer Ernesto Infusino, who collaborated for the conservation of the coast of Crotone. They both thank the Assessore regionale alla Forestazione, on. In the respect of the aims of the Riserva Naturale Marina "Capo Rizzuto" and according to the Project suggested and elaborated by SHORE LINE S.c.a.r.l. (Piano di gestione 1999), the Ente manager wants to test a series of initiatives aimed to the study of the fish restocking and aggregation mechanisms through the use of manufactures placed in an area delimited by structures preventing drag hunting. The experimental area will extend itself for mt. 200X80 for a surface of 16.000 square mt, and it will be provided with a particular structure in order to aggregate fish communities for trophic reasons (the ability to find food is increased) and because some species will find here a shelter. In this way, for some typologies of artisan fishing, the quantity of fish caught will be increased, since the fish will concentrate in the pre-established delimited areas. |
