Didactic and information activity
The Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, by establishing the Basovizza nature didactic center, has equipped itself with a facility dedicated to the environmental education especially aimed at fostering the knowledge of the ecosystems, flora and fauna of the karst and regional area. The didactic nature center is situated in the karst hamlet of Basovizza, in the province of Trieste. The permanent exhibitions highlight the natural, historical and cultural features of the Karst region around Trieste, and the regional and global themes such as the relationship between man, forest and the many ways to use the wood, the biodiversity, the environmental sustainability of human behaviors towards nature.
The didactic and information activity is organized and managed by a professional staff belonging to the Italian Forestry Corps. The didactic nature center curates the publication of didactic and information materials, it planned and managed the realization of many thematic nature paths near Basovizza and realized the several didactic projects for schools of any grade, both in Italian and in Slovenian.
It is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, on Tuesday afternoon from 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm in summer and from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm in winter. It is also open every first Monday of the month, from 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm in summer and from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in winter.
On the opening Sundays didactic activities for children, thematic conferences and shows of didactic audiovisual materials are usually carried out. The didactic center is equipped with a room dedicated to the temporary exhibitions which always hosts new events focusing on the nature themes or the territory's culture, realized by artists or researchers.
Services available:
- guided visits to the Center;
- didactic-forestry visits to the forests of the karst area;
- guide service for blind people on the "Josef Ressel" path.
All the services are free.
