Hiking Trail "Monte Rufeno"

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Wildlife, Panorama
  • Duration: 3 hour/s
  • Length: 3.5 km

The hiking trail "Monte Rufeno" goes through three different vegetable associations that can be found inside the natural reserve: the mixed wood Turkey oak and Downy oak, the chestnut coppice, and the pinewood. A mixed wood of oaks, hornbeams, flowering ashes, elms and maples is the background for the first part of the trail. You will notice here, between two water-eroded walls, a beautiful small waterfall that has originated some travertine formation. The central part of the trail goes through a chestnut wood, at the end of which stands the oldest imposing chestnut of the Reserve, a remarkable example of longevity. The trail is ideal for those who love walking and want to spend a relaxing day outdoors, immersed in nature. It will be an interesting experience to many visitors, which might give rise to emotions unknown to them. A chance for those who live in towns to discover new colors, sounds and scents. You will have the possibility to see nature with different eyes, to follow the hawks' flight in the blue sky, to hear the noise of animals running in the undergrowth, and to experience other extraordinary feelings. The trail begins near Casale Felceto and develops inside the Nature Reserve for 3.5 km. It is marked with special yellow-painted trail markers; yellow is also the trail distinguishing color.
