Pilot breeding activity for the recovery and reintroduction of the breed

It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that Azienda Foreste presents the third updated reprint of this publication dedicated to the recovery of Pantelleria donkey breed, a recovery that has been made possible by the devotion and professionalism of the staff that has been working on this project for the last twenty years.
A small nucleus of nine donkeys associated to Pantelleria breed has been recovered from the whole regional territory and has been bred at San Matteo di Erice state-owned forest (TP) in order to eliminate the anomalous features of the breed through a series of selective crossbreeds.
