Leaving from the medieval village of Peagna, born from the union of the currently abandoned locations of Anzio, Beverello, Borbena, Moltedo, and Paerno, where the ancient Borbena was situated, go ahead on a stretch of asphalted road and then abandon it when you reach the hairpin bend, and enter the valley of Rio Ibà, rich in endemic flora.
Through different environments, from the riparian one to the karst phenomena, from reforestation to the pastures, you will discover the traces of the ancient forestal and shepherds' life, like mills, bridges with stonework arcs, charcoal piles, you will get to a saddle where the view opens towards the Ligurian Alps like the summits of Carmo, Rocca Barbena, Galero and its spurs, up to Pizzo dOrmea. A little bit farther on, you reach the little chapel of Pizzo Ceresa, with a wonderful view also on the coast, on the plain, and on the mouths of the Albenga valleys.
For the return, take the road towards the sanctuary of Monte Croce, passing beyond the 19th century Forte dei Due Fratelli, then follow the right and sunny, dry and calcareous slope of the spur towards the sea of what in the past was the Borghetto line.
You reach once again the course of the Rio Ibà, and conclude with the visit to the paleontological museum Silvio Lai and to the regional natural reserve of Rio Torsero, famous for the fossil deposits of the Pliocene Era. |
