Accessible Trails for People with Disabilities

The accessible trails network for disabled people develops for about 400 meters within the monumental area and leads to location Ca' del Bosco, in the woodland area of the Reserve.
In the monumental area, the ring-route gives the opportunity to visit the chapels of the Blessed Virgin Mary Crowned, St. John the Baptist, the Via Crucis portico, and the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, as well as the Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity.
From the belvedere near the Sanctuary, it is also possible to enjoy the wonderful panorama over Lago Maggiore and the chain of Prealpi lombarde.
From the monumental area, crossing the area of the celebrations, it is possible to head to the pinewood along a trail characterized by a stabilized bottom.
The monumental area is characterized by stone-paved flooring with grey stones, while it is soft yellow in the area behind (restaurant and public toilets).
The pavement is characterized by different local stones, to offer an adequate chromatic contrast for visually handicapped persons: the white granite of Montorfano is used for the grey pavement and the dark-grey serizzo of Antigorio is used for the soft yellow section.
In order to safeguard the context, the stone kerbs derive in color and quality from the paving material.
The structures guaranteeing the accessibility near the Sanctuary have been realized with qualified material: therefore, the new pavement in the crossroads between the protected trail and the road - to make vehicles slow down and to provide a sound signal to visually handicapped or blind people - have been built with a local-stone pavement characterized by a high-sound impact and marked roughness using serizzo small blocks and, as far as zebra stripes at the pedestrian crossing are concerned, alternating white granite slabs with grey serizzo.
Moreover, the monumental area is equipped with public toilets for disabled people near the restaurant of SS. Trinità.
The best periods to visit Sacro Monte are spring and autumn.
