Riserva Naturale Statale Gola del Furlo

Acqualgna - Piobbico - Apecchio

  • Trail Conditions: Car
  • Interest: Geology, Religion, Archeology, Hystory
  • Duration: about 35 minutes

Go along the narrow Candigliano valley and enter Gola del Furlo. Visit S.Vincenzo al Furlo Church, and then reach Acqualagna.
If you follow the direction Piobbico-Apecchio you will see Petriccio Church, characterized by a Romanesque-Gothic style. The itinerary leads you to discover some wild gorges of the Apennines, and on the left you will find the ancient abbey of Naro.
Beyond a narrow gorge rich in rocky pinnacles, you reach the basin of Piobbico. Brancaleoni Castle dominates here: built in the 13th century, it was transformed in 1573 into a wonderful Renaissance building with a beautiful view over the medieval village. By going ahead along S.S. 257, you will find yourself in an even more charming landscape in the heart of the Apennines, and you will reach Apecchio.

  • To visit: the medieval humpback bridge over Biscupio and the fossils museum of Mt. Nerone.
