Meta - Mt. Viglio

This is one of the shortest itineraries leading to the summit of Mt. Viglio, and also one of the easiest. From the long dirt road which from Meta gets to Fonte degli Scifi and, beyond, Vallone di Femmina Morta.
The route develops in the beech tree wood up to Fonte degli Scifi but - after the spring - it crosses an area completely deprived of trees and often subject to strong winds.
From the summit of Mt. Viglio you can enjoy a wonderful view; on the summit, whose formation is the one of a large grassy doline, you can still see two boundary stones which marked in the past the border between the Papal State and the Kingdom of Naples. On the boundary stones, the symbolic keys of St. Peter are engraved.
It is recommended to follow the old mule tracks, so that you will not get bored for the uphill route along the above-mentioned dirt road.
