Saltworks
Goals
General aim of the project is the enhancement, development and promotion of the saltworks. As far as the Priority Point No. 1 "Environment, transports and sustainable social integration" is concerned the project is intended to realize the operative objective No. 1.1 "Protecting biodiversity and guaranteeing the sustainable management of natural resources".
Operative goals:
- To introduce a common strategy for the sustainable fruition of the saltworks;
- To promote quality local production, didactic-scientific tourism, the organization of new areas and spaces of use, guided tours, the spread of knowledges concerning the Mediterranean Saltworks, didactic activities and workshops, development and characterization;
- To involve stakeholders in order to improve the use of the areas, taking into particular consideration young people, disabled and elderly people;
- To improve the nowadays closed facilities;
- To develop new sustainable activities in the territory;
- To spread the knowledge and the development of a common strategy in the saltworks;
- To offer new job opportunities especially to young people.
The project starts from one of the strong points of the Point No. 1, in particular the presence of many protected areas, areas belonging to the Natura 2000 Network, many natural habitats in the Program-areas: thanks to the similarity of the involved areas it is intended to introduce a common strategy for the sustainable development of the saltworks, also trying to make them more attractive and strengthening the strategies between environment and growth.
The measures planned in the project should improve the use of the saltworks from an eco-friendly perspective, so that one of the threats described in the Operative Program - such as environmental degradation and degradation of the natural and cultural heritage - can be handled. To be able to appreciate, and consequently protect a territory, knowledge is necessary. Therefore the project is intended to spread among local stakeholders, in particular among young people, the awareness about saltworks' nature, historical and cultural value. To achieve this objective both the schools of the territory and the universities will be involved. Moreover, thanks to special exchange activities among the partners of the project and to common actions that will be realized to spread the results achieved, it is intended to overcome one of the weak points described in the Operative Program, namely the presence of cultural barriers.
The sustainable development of the saltworks through the implementation of the activities included in the project will also lead to the creation of new job opportunities, in order to enhance both environment and traditions. Through the project the partners will work together to assure a sustainable territorial integration by identifying and conveying good practices to each of the areas involved. Therefore combined solutions for the protected areas involved will be found, in order to realize sustainable activities guaranteeing the protection and development of biodiversity.
