|Protected Areas in Burkina Faso
The Department of the Environment ensures the promotion and development by the Government of policies aimed at improving the environment and the quality of life.
The Department has been entrusted with environmental protection and the implementation of international conventions ratified by the Country, the elaboration and development of environmental education programs, the coordination of activities aimed at fighting against desertification and against other causes of environmental degradation.
As far as forests and fauna are concerned, it is entrusted with the establishment, classification, conservation, rational exploitation and management of the national forest heritage, as well as with the establishment, classification, conservation and management of the reserves of national parks, faunal reserves and other similar reserves together with the Department in charge of tourism, as well as with the enhancement of the wildlife heritage.
Moreover, the Department of the Environment deals with the planning, coordination, regulation and development of actions aimed at improving the environment and the quality of life both in the rural and urban areas.
