Ecuador, crossed from north to south by the Andes chain, is populated by almost 12 million people who live in its 280,000 sq.km; the population is continuously growing. Thanks to the great variety of climates characterizing the various areas, the flora and wildlife heritage of Ecuador is one of the richest in the world. The current rise in population with the consequent urbanization of new lands represents a risk for many forest areas.
