Fell and hill landscapes

Riisitunturi National Park represents the fell and hill landscape of Koillismaa district at its best. The most valuable features of Riisitunturi Fell are the colourful hanging bogs on the slopes, and on the top of the fell the breath-taking scenery over the Lakes Kitkajärvet and the forest landscape of Posio. In the snowy forests, trees are covered with ”tykky”, frozen snow deposits, which in the blue moonlight just seem unreal.
The trail network of Riisitunturi is most suitable for hiking trips lasting a couple of days. The most popular destinations to visit are the felltops and the places along the trails where you will find a great scenery.
Riisitunturi National Park is closely connected with the protected mire area of Karitunturi Fell, and the old-growth forests on the northern and southern edges of the park.
