Varied wild scenery includes rockstrewn pinewoods, open bogs and lakes

In Salamajärvi National Park it is possible to hike in wilderness-like landscape, on the peaceful paths following the tracks of the Wild Forest Reindeer.
Salamajärvi is located in the beautiful rugged watershed region of Suomenselkä. This large, uninhabited area is especially known for its diverse mire ecosystems and its set of wilderness animals. There are also old-growth forests and peaceful forest lakes in their natural state. In the landscape, large open bogs with their forested islets alternate with dry rocky pine forests. At some place the rocky ground turns into continuous stone fields.
