Shimba Hills National Reserve

How to get there

By Car

Approaching map
  • The Reserve is 35 km southwest of Mombasa, off the main south coast road which leads to the Tanzanian border.
From the Likoni Ferry crossing, travel 15 km south and turn right into the hills at the well signposted junction to Kwale town. As you climb toward Kwale, at about 7 km (or 5 km south of Kwale), look for the Shimba Hills main gate sign.
From this point the Shimba Hills main gate is another 2 km.

Other roads:

  • The main gate is inside the Reserve, 5 km south of Kwale.
The southern entry is Kidongo gate, but as the access road is often impassable, it is not recommended except in 4WD vehicles.
