Zona di salvaguardia Stura di Lanzo

Opening image Zona di salvaguardia Stura di Lanzo
The area includes a part of the ancient riparian plain woodland which once ran along the stream Stura. The several wetlands fed by springs preserve interesting ecosystems characterized by marsh species like Carex, Cyperus, Heleocaris, Typha and Potamogeton. Of great interest is the presence of Matteuccia struthiopteris, a not very common fern in Piedmont. Waters represent the ideal habitat for several species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles, as well as for the rare freshwater crayfish. The bed of the stream and its banks are populated by over one hundred resident and migratory bird species like the Little Grebe, the Coot, the Great Crested Grebe, the Osprey, the Buzzard, the Sparrow Hawk, and the Grayleg Goose. The area is interested in more than one point by an outcropping fossil forest dating back to some hundred thousands years ago. Where in Italy Zona di salvaguardia Stura di Lanzo
