The trail mainly develops in the Monterotondo Marittimo area, which is characterized by a strong geothermal activity. Many natural geothermal phenomena show themselves along the trail: the emission of steam from the ground, the presence of fumaroles and of the so-called "putizze" and "lagoni", together with geothermal wells and power plant. There are also interesting thermal realities.
