Citelli - Serracozzo Trail

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora, Geology, Panorama, Hystory
  • Difficulty Level: intermediate/demanding

From the site of Citelli Mountain Hut, at 1,736m, recently renovated, follow the asphalt road for 200m and take then the trail on the left climbing towards Serra delle Concazze. The itinerary develops among charming birch trees, chestnut trees, and pines.
Going beyond the ruins of an ancient sheepfold with a stone-built shelter, the trail heads for Vallone Serracozzo where, in the initial stretch of the 1971 lava flow, you will find the entrance of the homonymous cave, at 1,830m. From here, go ahead with various ups and downs until you reach the bottom of the gully; climb therefore towards the edge of the sierra where, at 1,900m, the vegetation ends.
Turning right, at 2,000m, and you will find the beginning of the spectacular uphill trail leading to the ridge dominating Valle del Bove on the left. Climb steep stretches followed by ups and downs until 2,200 meters, the highest point of the trail. Cross the ridge along a slightly downhill trail until you reach a gully of soft sand going down up to 200m. From here, on the right, take again the trail crossing the woodland and meeting, at 1,800m, the uphill trail leading back on the left to the main road, and on the right to the departure site.
