Gateway of the Parma ham

Among lakes and valleys

From the Cisa highway, beyond the Sillara Pass and to Marra, a panoramic balcony overlooks the main territory where Parma ham is produced. The typical buildings used for processing and aging are tall and narrow, like their windows, and characterise the Apennine around Parma: a beautiful territory, with its ridges and famous lakes, and its main product, whose taste is due to the air of the nearby sea, and to an ancient yet constantly updated knowledge. To the south, the ridges between Marmagna mountains and Orsaro enclose a landscape of valleys and streams that flow down from the ancient cirques of Lago Santo and Lagoni. Physical features and typical production shape the territory of upper Val Parma. Visiting the ham factories means diving into Italian landscape and food production.
