From Bova to Delianuova

  • Trail Conditions: On foot

The traces of the past and the wonders of nature are the protagonists of the trail leading from Bova to Delianuova (red-white-red trail markers and no. 128). It is a 2-4 day long walk and it allows to pass through Aspromonte from the Ionian coast to the Tyrrheanian one. The inhabitants of the Greek colony of Delia climbed the mountain in order to settle in areas which were more protected from the attacks coming from the sea. Some of them settled in Bova, others crossed the ridge to found Paracorio, near Pedavoli. The latter characterize today the important center of Delianuova facing the plane of Gioia Tauro and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The trail was used till the half of the 19th century to promote contacts and exchanges of goods between the inhabitants of Bova and those of Pedavoli, especially in occasion of their patronal feasts. Nowadays that there are carriage roads, this path still preserves an important history for mountain-loving people.
