Black Bullhead (Ictalurus melas)

Widespread in Italy and in general in Europe, this fish grows to 60cm of maximum length. The Black Bullhead has four barbels it uses as sensory organs in the cloudy waters, where there is no light, to "feel" its preys.
It is a very sought-after prey for fishermen (but mind the sting on its back!), although it is not very important from a commercial point of view.
This fish is very resistant to unfavorable conditions: if it can maintain its body wet, it can also survive three days out of the water.
