Groane clayey ground is difficult to cultivate and has favored the
preservation of some hectares of a peculiar kind of forest where
interesting vertebrate communities live. Thanks to a study promoted and
financed by the Park, this wildlife is nowadays one of the best known in
Lombardy and in Italy.
The volume opens with an analysis of the habitats and an explanation of the methods used to carry out the survey (the "monthly transept", the census activities, the different indexes used). With a brief section dedicated to Europe, Lombardy, and the Park, the central part of the book includes a list of all the species of terrestrial vertebrates (amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals) whose presence has been registered in the Park. Several tables and graphics help the reader to better understand the text.
