The area encompasses two karst subareas, featuring interesting geomorphology (sinkholes, ponors, caves, gorges) covered with mixed woods (especially oaks) and meadows. The contacts between semi-natural and farmed areas increase animal biodiversity. Priority habitats, Chiroptera included in Annex II of the Habitat Directive (92/43 CEE), several species protected at European/international level, and significant endemic species characterise the area.
