La Brilla is situated in front of the Massaciuccoli lake, near the ancient Roman thermal baths, the LIPU OASIS, the Puccini cycle lane leading to Lucca, and the path network in the hills behind.
The building was named after its past function as a plant for the polishing of rice, and within it, it is still possible to admire the machines and the water-powered gears that were needed to this purpose.
Today, after a long restoration work, the building has been conceived as a multifunctional autonomous space of 1,800 square meters divided into four levels hosting: the visitor center, the hostel/guesthouse with 50 beds, an area to taste the typical local products, the conference hall and an exhibition area of about 400 square meters for exhibitions, workshops and didactic activities.
