It is clung to Mt. Pilone, where in the 11th century a Benedictine fortress and the surrounding town stood. Today, the ancient Rocca or Corte is only a ruin, but the historical town center has maintained its medieval aspect, with crooked and steep lanes and small houses which seem to be anchored into the rock. Important monuments are the 15th century Collegiata di Maria Santissima della Visitazione with its Renaissance portal and interesting paintings and Santa Maria Portella Church at the gates of the town.
