| Parco Lombardo del Ticino - the first regional park in Italy - was born in 1974 to defend the river and the several natural environments of the Ticino Valley from the attacks of industrialization and of a greater urbanization. The Consortium managing the Park - consisting of 47 Municipalities and 3 Provinces, controls a territory of more than 91 thousand hectares, by using a differentiated protection system for natural areas, agricultural and urban areas. The aim is to combine the needs of environmental protection with the social and economic demand of the several communities living in the area, which is one of the most densely populated areas in Italy. A difficult but possible challenge, whose must is "development yes, but sustainable". |
