Peat-lake basin of low mountain, characterized by a great contrast between the marshy environment of the lake and the surrounding dry environment. The morphology of the area is typically glacial and it presents phenomena of over-excavation which led to the formation of the lake basin and of the characteristic rounded and smooth hillocks surrounding it. The rocks where the basin has been excavated belong to the group of green stones (among which prasinite and serpentinite), deriving by magma-rocks of an ancient ocean bottom which metamorphosed during the folding of the Alpine chain.
