Situated among the green woods at the top of a hill overlooking Orta Lake, Sacro Monte is characterized by 21 chapels built between the end of the 17th and the end of the 19th century, with frescoes and earthenware sculptures on St. Francis' life. If the paintings and the sculptures represent a great artistic heritage indeed and were made by important artists (the Flemish, Cristoforo Prestinari, Dionigi Bussola, and Morazzone), the nature aspects are also interesting.
