Valleys and forests where the holm oak meets the beech

The Local Protected Area extends over 220 hectares in a very natural territory among San Vivaldo, Sughera and Castelfalfi, in the municipality of Montaione (FI).
In a mainly woody area where mixed oak forests prevail, many natural habitats, plant and animal species survive: they are are species of primary importance such as a beech forest at a low altitude (200 meters above sea level) with thick populations of yew (also centuries-old yews are present), holly and common holly. Within the beech forest, near the stream waters, it is to notice the presence of the rare spectacled salamander.
