Upper Silla Valley and Mt. Gennaio

On foot         Great Interest: Flora Great Interest: Wildlife Great Interest: Geology Great Interest: Hystory
  • Departure: Rifugio Segavecchia
  • Duration: 6 hour/s
  • Length: 10.5 km

This long tour gives the opportunity to discover the central part of the Park, particularly isolated and wild, formed by the beautiful valley of the stream Causso which, gathering the waters of the ditches Gennaio and Uccelliera and the canal Piana del Vento, represents one of the branches of Silla high-mountain basin. The ring-route climbs the main valley up to the ridge, dominated by Mt. Gennaio and Poggio delle Ignude, goes along the ridge for a while and gets to the imposing eastern wall of Corno before descending along the Balzi della Malacarne and Grossi mountain chains. It is a full-day itinerary but has no particular difficulties, except for a short stretch of exposed and slippery trail developing around Mt. Gennaio. Along the trail you will have the opportunity to carry out interesting geological, botanical, and wildlife observations both near the several stretches of water and beyond the edge of the wood (for the presence of marmot colonies and several mountain bird species). The itinerary leaves from loc. Segavecchia: you can reach the location from Pianaccio by taking the road beginning in the upper part of the town, on foot or by car (with great care). You can reach Pianaccio by following the directions you will find at the hairpin bend downhill Lizzano in Belvedere and taking the right road at Monteacuto junction.
