From San Giacomo Lake to Livigno

On foot
  • Departure: Lago artificiale di San Giacomo
  • Arrival: Livigno
  • Duration: 4 hour/s

The itinerary, with no difficulties, takes about 4 hours and crosses one of the most interesting valleys in the Park for its floristic, geomorphological, and landscape features. You can reach by car the western end of San Giacomo artificial lake, in Val Frale, and then go ahead on foot along the carriege road built during WWI, which goes from Valle Alpisella to the homonymous mountain pass (2,268m). The watershed running here divides two large water basins: river Po on the one side and river Danube on the other side. Leaving the Pass behind, take the downhill trail towards Livigno, along an itinerary crossing brooks and streams whose waters start here their long journey toward the Black Sea. If the uphill trail winds across green pastures housing the springs of river Adda, the second stretch of the itinerary leads the hikers across larch and mugo pine woodlands, offering enchanting views of Livigno lake.
