Sensory Trail: A Route Made of Perceptions

The first nature trail for deaf people

  • Trail Conditions: On foot, Accessible Trail
  • Departure: Centro Parco La Dogana
  • Difficulty Level: T - Tourist (level)

The trail "Sensory Trail: A Route Made of Perceptions", created by Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino and Lions Club of Gallarate, was inaugurated on Sunday 23rd October 2005. It is a pilot project, the first in Lombardy, studied to make accessible and stimulating a nature tour for the hearing-impaired or deaf people.
Anyway, this trail is open to all visitors: as a matter of fact, anyone, drawing closer to the world of deaf people, can use forgotten forms of perceptions, and therefore rediscover a deepest contact with nature, less superficial and more personal.
The Sensory Trail consists of a selected itinerary, adequately equipped with supporting means of communication for hearing impaired or deaf persons. The reference point of the itinerary is La Dogana Park Center situated in Tornavento di Lonate Pozzolo (VA), provided with a comfortable picnic area and an area dedicated to a thematic photographic exhibit.
The tour follows a ring-route beginning from the bridge on the expressway near the Park Center, goes ahead along via Gaggio and then enters the moorland, along a ring ending at the departure point. The chosen itinerary gives the opportunity to observe in particular the woodlands and the moorland.
