An Extraordinary Canyon Formed by Steep Rocks...

Where in Italy Riserva Naturale Forra del Cellina
The reserve includes the most significant section of the valley dug by the stream Cellina in the Cretaceous limestones, which forms the mountains situated between Barcis and Montereale Valcellina, in the province of Pordenone. The valley has the morphological aspect of a big canyon, the largest of the region and without a doubt one of the most spectacular in Italy, with vertical walls and important river erosion phenomena. A real "system" of ravines, flowing one into the other, involving the courses of the streams Alba, Molassa, and Cellina. This naturalistic region has a particular historical importance for the presence of some hydroelectric power plants for the exploitation of the waters of Cellina and for the old road of Valcellina crossing the area.
