The "Isole Egadi" Rescue Center for Sea Turtles was established with the aim to make up for the lack of similar facilities in the Trapani's area, and to create a point of reference on the territory, as far as the recovery of the animals in trouble is concerned.
The center, managed by the "Isole Egadi" Marin Protected Area, in collaboration with the WWF Italia Onlus and Legambiente Onlus environmental associations, has been built in the basement of the prestigious Florio Palace, a liberty and neo-Gothic dwelling owned by the Municipality of Favignana, situated in the heart of the village's built-up area and near the harbor, thanks to the financial contributions of the Ministry of Environment and of the Territory and Sea Protection, of Federparchi - Fondo per la Biodiversità, of the sponsor "Riomare" and of the Marine Protected Areas' earnings.
