Monti della Meta great ring
A small natural jewel in a remote corner of the mountains
Starting from the Barrea pass at an altitude of 1100 metres, we will climb along the wooded Valle dell'Inferno until we reach the karst basin of Lago Vivo at 1600 meters above sea level to continue, crossing the karst plateau of Vallelunga, up to the Altare-Tartaro pass (2126 m). From here, with the exceptional panorama of the Canneto Valley below and the view that sweeps southwards over the profiles of the Lattari and Aurunci mountains, we will continue the journey going down a little to the green prairie of Pratolungo (1830 m), under the summit of Torretta di Paradiso, to go back up to Passo dei Monaci (1967 m), at the foot of Monte Meta. From here, continuing in the Biscurri plateau, we will reach the Rio Torto river to return to the starting point.
Chamois, deer, wolves, bears, eagles and griffins are the inhabitants of these places, it is not difficult to find signs of their presence and spot them along the way.
