A wetland of international interest according to the Ramsar Convention, the territory known as "Pian di Spagna" is mainly formed by a large overflow of Mezzola Lake. The vegetation is dominated by Common Reed canebrakes. Moreover, the area is characterized by broadleaf mixed woodlands, large agricultural areas used as pastures or corn plots.
