The Valtellina Path and the Guanellian Path

  • Trail Conditions: On foot, By bike
  • Interest: Flora, Panorama, Hystory

As with all the large Alpine valley bottoms, Valtellina has also been equipped with a cycle-pedestrian path that closely follows the Adda river, from its outlet into Lake Como, near Colico, up to Grosio.
    It is a path
accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, 97 km long, separated and protected from motorized traffic.

It offers an unexpected cross-section of the valley, different from the overly urbanized one that can be seen from the state road. The Valtellina Path rediscovers stretches of beautiful countryside, river forests, old villages half hidden under the protective blanket of chestnut trees.
    The
Guanellian Path is, however, dedicated to the work of San Luigi Guanella, who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries and who carried out his evangelizing and educational work in the Lower Valtellina and Valchiavenna.
It develops along already existing hiking itineraries, also providing suggestions for
meditative routes and touches the places usually frequented by Don Luigi Guanella.
