Terria Laboratory has been established by the Province of Terni (Wildlife Planning Service) with the aim to create an observatory on the local aquatic ecosystems. It has a strategic position: as a matter of fact, it lies in the heart of Valnerina, in loc. Terria (Municipality of Ferentillo), in a particularly charming place characterized by a high degree of naturalness. In this stretch, the river Nera acquires a particular environmental interest and, for this reason, the area is included in Nera River Park.
The lab gives the opportunity to carry out several research activities aimed at the conservation of autochthonous fish species of great naturalistic and sport interest, like the brown trout. The information collected during the research activities are used to plan a management aiming at the recovery and reintroduction of the brown trout autochthonous stock in the basin of the river Nera. To this aim, the Laboratory has a group of breeders with the morphological and genetic features of the "Mediterranean stock", characterizing the trout belonging to the original local wildlife; these specimens are used to produce trout and repopulate the waters of the provincial territory.
Environmental Education is one of the main activities of the Center, accredited by CRIDEA (Regional Center for Information, Documentation, and Environmental Education), and focuses on the organization of activities aiming at providing information on the aquatic environments and the water resource.
The educational project is based on a systemic approach aiming at the analysis of the various biotic elements of the aquatic ecosystem (fish fauna, macroinvertebrates, plankton, vegetation), the interactions among them and with the environment, and the role played by each element. Particular attention is paid to the concept of biodiversity and the importance of its safeguard.

How to reach us: follow SS Valnerina up to the road signal to Terria. Cross the bridge on the river Nera, turn right, and you will see the trout farming pools.
