The Key-ring of the Ecomuseum Colombano Romean: anè or manavella

The "anè", also called "manavella", is one of the most simple and functional tools of the mountain and rural culture, whose shape has been improved with the daily use and experimentation. It can be used to tie up everything: bales of hay or straw, bundles of sticks, the load of the mule, etc. Its usefulness consists of the fact that it gives the possibility to quickly and simply tie up and untie the string linked to it, also when it has become stiff for the rain or entangled for the continuous shaking during the transport.
The kind of knot used is a clove hitch knot used both by masons and sailors, an example of how the workers of the mountains, the plain, and the sea have found the same solution to the most common problems of every day. Therefore, this humble object coveys a message of tradition, but also of universality, with its string trying to tie up the technological and frantic present to a past all to recover. A symbol for the Ecomuseum who would like to strengthen this knot.
